How Direct Fuel Injection Works:

In a lot of the gasoline fueled vehicles, the engines operate on a 4-stroke cycle. A 4-stroke cycle engine’s first step is to open its valves and cylinders are then filled with an air and gasoline mixture. After this step, the valves will close and the pistons will move up and down, which compresses the mixture. Once this has happened, the ignition is triggered, which sends the pistons down towards what is called the power stroke. The last step involves the exhaust valve to open and the piston to travel upward, which forces out the waste exhaust.

Within a carbureted vehicle, the blend of fuel is mixed prior to entering the cylinder during the first stroke. However, with direct injection, the gas is sprayed within the cylinder as the air enters through the intake manifold.

Volvo Cars Recommends Kids To Travel Rearward Facing

Volvo Cars, the company famed for its safety initiatives and innovations, recommends that small children should travel in rearward facing child restraints for as long as possible – at least until they are three to four years old. Older children, on the other hand, are advised to use a booster cushion until they are 140 centimeters tall and at least ten years old.

The Swedish automaker’s recommendation is based on real life accidents blended with advanced research at Volvo Cars’ state-of-the-art crash laboratory. Volvo is absorbed in finding new ways to reduce road injuries – this is why it is focusing on safety development. For four decades now, the automaker is studying child safety as part of its philosophy.

Volvo started researching child safety in the early 1960′s. This was a time when space journeys were hot news. On the black and white TV screen you could see the astronauts lying on their backs to even out the forces during take-off and landing. Using the entire back to spread the forces was incorporated in the first child restraint prototype, which was tested in 1964. Since then, Volvo Cars has been setting the standard in child safety.

Volvo’s founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson said, “Cars are driven by people. The guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo therefore, is – and must remain – safety.” And the philosophy still stands up to the present time. Since its inception, the automaker has launched numerous safety milestones like Volvo park lights, three-safety belt, airbags, seatbelt with pretensioners, rearward facing child restraint, and other remarkable equipment.

“Our first rearward facing child restraint was launched back in 1972,” said Lotta Jakobsson, the Child Safety Specialist at Volvo Cars Safety Centre. Volvo has also been a driving force in international cooperations such as the making of the ISOFIX standard. The latter is a standardized anchoring system that makes it easier to fit a child restraint correctly in any car equipped with the system.

In 1970, the Volvo Traffic Accident Research Team was established to study car crashes in Sweden linked to newer Volvo models. Since then, the team has studied about 2,500 traffic accidents down to the smallest detail. Based on the accident research, the team develops new safety technologies. Information from more than 36,000 accidents is stored in a statistical database. The Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS) and the Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) are direct results of this accident research.

“Our engineers identify interesting areas, develop solutions and incorporate them in the oncoming Volvo model,” said Jakobsson. “When that model is out on the streets, the research of real life car crashes continues to help decide which areas to focus on in next generation. It is a continuous process.”

Volvo’s studies and statistical database that include more than 4,500 children revealed that a child in a rearward facing child seat is approximately 90 percent less likely to be injured in an accident compared to an unrestrained child. The studies also found that using a booster cushion, the child runs an approximately 75 percent lower risk of being injured compared to being unrestrained.

“All children must always be restrained properly. They should travel facing the rear until at least the age of three-four and use restraints for older children up to 10-12 years of age,” said Jakobsson. Using a booster cushion, integrated or accessory, with the lap belt pulled tight prevents the body from riding underneath the safety belt and forward in a collision, she added.

fishing shows on T.V., or are a fisherman or sailor yourself,
then you know how a GPS unit will benefit you. Getting lost at
sea or on a large lake would not be fun. The other side of the
coin is the fisherman, say there is a great hotspot on any given
lake in the world, that specific spot can be saved in your GPS
system and found again at any time. This could be beneficial to
the recreational or professional fisherman.

Tracking: If you run a courier business, rental business,
or just plain delivery service, and need to keep track of
several vehicles, then GPS is what you need. Keeping track of
your vehicles will keep your overhead down. The other end of
tracking is keeping track of a family member or child, a GPS

Travelling to and From Worthing

Worthing is located on the South Coast of England, 60 miles (100km) south of London and 11 miles )16Km) west of Brighton. It is well served by major road, rail and coach links as well as being close to several international airports.

Travelling By Air
The nearest airport to Worthing is London Gatwick. Being London’s second airport, it has flights connecting to many cities all over the world as well as throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. It is 35 miles from Worthing and can be reached by road, rail or National Express coach services via Brighton & Hove.

Southampton Airport is 53 miles away and has flights going mainly to UK and European destinations. There are no easy coach or rail services, so the airport is usually reached by road.

Heathrow Airport, the UK’s busiest international airport is further away at 60 miles but offers extensive connections with major cities all around the world. If travelling by road or by National Express coach services during peak hours sufficient time should be allowed for holdups on the M25. To go by train, it is necessary to change in London and take the Heathrow Express from Paddington.

Right on Worthing’s doorstep is Shoreham Airport. Although in the past, there have been services to the north of France and Channel islands, unfortunately there are currently no scheduled flights into or out of from Shoreham Airport.

Travelling By Train
Worthing’s main Railway Station is a short distance from the town centre and together with its other four stations: East Worthing, West Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea and Goring-by-Sea, it is on the West Coastway line.BR>

Worthing is mainly served by Southern Railways and direct services are available to Brighton, London Victoria, London Bridge, Gatwick Airport, Portsmouth and Southampton. The journey time from London is approximately 84 minutes. First Great Western also run occasional services further afield.

Travelling By Bus
There are several bus companies operating services from to/from Worthing. Longer distance routes are available from National Express Coaches for example between Worthing and London Victoria Coach Station. Stagecoach is the main local bus company operating around the town and offers connections with towns along the South Coast. Other local services around Sussex are available from Brighton and Hove Buses, Compass Buses and Metro Bus.

Travelling By Car
The major routes for Worthing are the A27 and A24. The A27 / A259, the main south coast routes connect to Brighton & Hove, Eastbourne, Hastings, Folkestone and Dover in the East and Chichester and then by the M27 to Portsmouth and Southampton to the west. The A24 runs north via Horsham and Dorking to the M25 and then by Leatherhead into London. The A23 that links Brighton & Hove to the A25 and London is in easy reach by the A27. During peak hours, there are a number of traffic hotspots with high levels of congestion, time should be allowed when travelling around Worthing on the A27 and along the coast on the A259.

Travelling By Ferries
Not far away is the ferry port of Newhaven from where LD Lines / Transmanche Ferries offer services to Dieppe in Northern France.
