How the Body Uses Amino Acids

Author: Evan ORourkebr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
The body requires amino acids to function properly. You may have heard that protein fuels the body, but it is more correct to recognise that it is the amino acids from those proteins that make your body function at optimum levels.

Amino acids are formed in the body when proteins break down. These amino_acids then find their way to the body systems where they are most needed. The more proteins you consume on a daily basis the more healthy amino your body produces.

The Science Behind

Every time you eat foods containing proteins or take a protein supplement you are increasing your bodys ability to perform. Proteins, once ingested, travel directly to your stomach. Once in the stomach these proteins break down into a.acids. Once in the stomach the a.acids combine with digestive and other hormones and are directed to the different body systems that depend on them for proper functioning.

The circulatory system, the endocrine system, the skeletal system, and the muscular system all use amino .acids in their day to day functioning. The amount of amino-acids available to these systems depends on the amount of protein you consume. Whole proteins, that contain essential amino acids, are a necessary part of any healthy diet. Meats, soy, fish, meat, and eggs all provide your body with needed protein.

Why Supplement?

Athletes are well aware that their bodies consume nutrients are a higher rate than non-athletes. You may already be aware of the many supplements available to help build muscle mass, control weight, and improve overall fitness. What you might not realise is the importance of adding protein supplements to your diet to increase your amino acid production.

It is important to consume protein throughout the day for amino acids to constantly form and find their way to the places in your body they are most needed. For a body builder this place would be the muscular system. Amino acids will work to help build lean muscle mass and improve your general fitness to work out.

Protein Supplements

Protein supplements can be found in many forms. Protein bars, protein shakes, and protein powders can all be used to supplement your diet. You can look for bodybuilding supplements that contain certain amino acids known to help with muscle building. These important amino acids are:

* Arginine works to stimulate your bodys growth hormone.

* Lysine feeds your circulatory system and boosts your immune system. This is the amino acid that should be consumed for excellent health.

* Methionine is used by the bodys cells for protein synthesis, an important step in building lean muscle mass. It also helps with kidney and liver function.

* Phenylalanine helps to regulate your bodys metabolism.

* Glutamine works to increase cell production. This amino acid is necessary for building muscle mass.

Amino acids, when consumed in body building supplements, will help slow muscles from deteriorating during intense workouts. To make sure you are getting the proper amount of proteins in your diet for the forming of amino acids you will want to take protein supplements to make up for what natural foods are not giving you.

Brisbane to Cairns Road Trip

Author: Teresa Farren-Pricebr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Mention the words Road Trip in a country the size of Australia and some people will cringe in horror. The long distances between towns can turn travellers off. But it shouldnt, as there are so many places and lots to do and see, I feel the biggest thing travellers do incorrectly when planning a road trip is they dont allow enough time. Being rushed isnt going to add to the enjoyment. If you are on a tight schedule, fly to a central point and drive out to the locations you most want to see.

This article is going to focus on Brisbane to Cairns via the coast road (Pacific Hwy). So firstly you will need to decide how long your trip is going to be and that will determine the length of time you will have in any one place. I am going to stick mostly to the coast but there are many fabulous places to see on the inland roads.

Depart Brisbane:- The easiest exit route is the gateway motorway north. If youre starting point is south of the Brisbane River there is a toll to get North and there are no toll booths, so you will need to arrange for a pass or if you do go through the toll you have 3 days to call the transport administration and arrange payment via your credit card. The motorway will then merge into the Bruce Highway which will take you the rest of your trip.

The roads are reasonable good but there are several road works around so dont be impatient, keep to the speed limits indicated and be sure to stop if you are feeling fatigued. The RACQ is a good reference for road conditions in Queensland. Queensland is very hot in summer so have the air conditioning working, plenty of water to drink and some health snacks. If you are travelling with children make sure you have everything you need to make their trip as pleasurable as you can. It will impact on your holiday. Use this link for handy information on travelling with children.

Sunshine Coast: The Sunshine coast stretches from Caloundra to Noosa and there are many beautiful beaches in between. The sunny coast is not as commercialised as the Gold Coast but the outdoor activity is similar. Surfing, boating, swimming, skiing or anything related to the water is here for your enjoyment. The accommodation ranges from budget camping, cabins, family hotels and 4 and 5 star resorts. There are theme parks for the kids and the young at heart, plenty of shopping for the shopaholics, department stores, boutiques and tailors bring it on and take your credit cards. Some places you should probably not miss:- Steve Irwins Australia Zoo at Landsborough, Noosa National Park, Buderims Ginger factory and Underwater World at Mooloolaba.

Gympie:- Not much to see here however it is a quaint little town once known as the town that saved Queensland from bankruptcy. Gold was discovered here in 1867 and at that time Queensland was in drought and the wool prices had fallen dramatically, leaving the state in a bad way. There are some lovely parks and small historical buildings to see. A quick stop over here might be nice. Once a year the County Music Muster is held here and attracts many thousands of visitors.

Maryborough:- On the Mary River, normally heading north one would not go through this town as the highway bypasses the town and does cut quite a bit of time off the journey north. This town was once a busy immigration port but nowadays is popular with retirees.

Childers:- The highway takes you through this town which is a National Trust registered town and a centre for agriculture. The main street offers the traveller a few convenience stores, cafe` and a couple of the good Aussie pubs that serve up counter meals at reasonable prices. Childers is popular with backpackers because they can always get work here on the produce farms. Many will remember the terrible fire that occurred in the main street backpackers hostel in which several young people lost their lives.

If you were to look at a map of Queensland you would probably be saying hey, you have missed a few towns. Well yes, because the main highway does not go directly up the coast. However, if you have time, turn right and make the trip to the coast to Hervey Bay and Bundaberg.

Hervey Bay (On the Coast and off the highway)

Great town and busy most of the year with tourists visiting to see the whales. Whale watching tours run all day from dawn to sunset and you will be guaranteed to see the magnificent humpback whales. Tours include sight seeing and lunch on the day cruises, morning or afternoon tea on the half day cruises. Prices vary quite a bit, so get online to compare and save. There are plenty of beach front restaurants, cafe`s or parks for a picnic or some fish and chips, and the fish is very fresh from the fish markets here. Plenty of accommodation here so visit your favourite website and compare. (I like wot if or roamfree).

Bundaberg:- Called the sugar town, as this entire area is surrounded by sugar cane farms. The Burnett River runs through the middle of the town and the many heritage buildings make this a very appealing town for the visitor.

The town is most famous for Bundaberg Rum and the Bundy Bear, which most Aussies will know. The distillery opened 110years ago and has never looked back. Tours are available daily and even if you do not drink, it is fascinating to see how the rum is produced.

Mon Repos Beach is 15 kms east of the city and has the largest colony of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland. Nesting turtles are best viewed after dark 1 or 2 hours after the high tide from November to February. The visitors centre will issue you tickets to the area but turtles nest and eggs hatch at any time, so you may not see this event. Ask the locals to get the best information.

This has been a nice little diversion, but lets get back to the Highway

GinGin:- This very small town is known to have had some of the earliest cattle stations in Queensland and is now today still rich with pastoral and produce farms. There is a small museum here but a quick stop is all you will need.

Calliope:- Gold was once mined here, but never in a big way. The town has an historical village which is opened to the public, but really, the town benefits from its neighbour, Gladstone.

Gladstone:- This Central Queensland town has one of the most beautiful deep water ports on the Eastern seaboard. It is set in a resort setting with manicured lawns, facilities for the yachting community (shops, laundry, internet facilities etc) and the university has a campus here which is very active in the cultural scene. Just about the entire community is involved with the mining industry and you could easily spend a couple of days here looking around the mines and loading docks. The fishing fleet is based here so it is great for a fish meal. A little out of town you will also find a hidden treasure, the Gecko Valley Winery, a lovely spot in the hinterland where you can sample the produce and have a delightful lunch. On the way to or from Gecko Valley you will pass the Tondoon Botanic Gardens. This is an excellent place to sit and enjoy the bushland and if you are travelling with children they will love the open spaces.

Now the trip is going pretty well and you have been very conscientious with your diet. Well that all stops here as all the fast food outlets are in Gladstone, Mac Donalds, KFC and, Eagle boys pizza. If you are looking for something thats not fast food, but not a fancy restaurant, try the yacht Club down by the marina. The food is great, well priced and the view is the best in town.

Rockhampton:- Is known as the Beef Capital of Australia and it is said you will get the best steaks here. Visitors will be greeted by the very large statues of cattle in the streets, very novel. You can easily spend a few days in Rockhampton and the surrounding area. The town itself sits on the Fitzroy River and had its origin as a shipping port for produce and coal. Once paddle steamers travelled up and down the river, but sadly they have long gone.

Most travellers miss a few very important places here. Firstly the Rockhampton Zoo, which is remarkably good and is a very pleasant way to spend the day, whether you are 6 or 60. If you are lucky enough to be there for the feeding of the apes, it will bring a smile to your face. The animal attendants are not performers but the antics with the apes are well worth the wait.

Just out of town to the north are the Capricorn Caves. These spectacular caves are a unique system of above ground limestone caves. They were discovered in 1882 by John Olsen. Tours through the caves are available daily, do not miss this attraction. The Caves offer a great caravan park or cabin accommodation which is very reasonably priced and very much 4 – 5 star.

Rockhampton-ites have their own piece of paradise just 30minutes east of town on the coast. Yeppoon, with views of Great Keppel Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef. Ferry trips to the island are available daily and there is great accommodation on the island if you want to experience one of the most underrated islands of the reef. The island offers all the usual water sports and some great snorkelling in the crystal clear water.

There are a few small towns between Rockhampton and Mackay, but you will not find a lot to do there. They are great for a driver reviver stops or to refuel both the car and the family. Rest stops along the road are clearly marked. The drive between Rockhampton and Mackay has a bit of a reputation. This road claims a few travellers each year and it could well be that the 281kms is boring scenery. So take it easy and make sure you stick to the speed limits and take breaks when you need to.

Mackay:- The Sugar Capital. This very large regional city has a population of nearly 100,000 and is probably one of the most prosperous regional cities in the country. It has diversified the crop production over recent years but there is still an endless vista of cane fields and with its busy bulk handling terminal at the port, it is clearly the sugar centre of Australia. The boating here is second to none and the harbour is experiencing rapid growth with new marinas making it a popular destination with the boating community. In the hinterland of the Mackay region is Blair Althol and Peak Downs where you can visit a working coal mine or maybe fossick for gold in one of the creeks. The range of accommodation here is anything from backpackers, farm stays, camping or hotel/motel, everything to suit your budget or adventurous spirit. Once you reach this part of the Queensland coast the gardens become more tropical, so the parks are lush and provide a pleasant retreat from the road travel. Dont hurry! Stop to smell the roses or orchids in this case.

Now off to the place most tourists want to visit

Proserpine:- The turn off for the Whitsunday Passage and Airlie Beach

The town is dominated by the sugar industry and sugar mill. So, off the highway again to visit the playground of the rich and famous and the not so rich and famous. Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors come here to play in and on the ocean. Unless you are backpacking the prices can get a bit on the high side, especially during the high seasons from March to October. From Airlie Beach and Shut Harbour daily boat cruises take visitors to the many islands of the Whitsundays. The snorkelling or diving here is some of the best in the world. The water is clear, warm and fairly protected from rough weather by the reef. There are far too many island locations to mention in this article, but use this link to check out what this area has in store for you. http://www.whitsundaytourism.com/

Back to the Bruce Highway

Bowen:- Most people would just drive right through Bowen and never think to stop. I know that I have in the past. However it is a lovely town and there are some beautiful places to check out. It has a good marina and a great Yacht Club. If you are into fishing it doesnt get much better. So be sure to pack the tackle. The Bowen area is renowned for growing tomatoes and of course Bowen Mangoes. Most drivers will not even know that they drive past the Bowen Salt Works on the way into town. This salt works was set up in 1925 and produces around 250 thousand tonnes per annum and is well worth a stop to see. Bowen also has the Bowen Coke works, but this has nothing to do with the drink Coke. The Coke Works processes approximately 45,000 tonnes of metallurgical coke each year from Collinsville and transports it to Mt Isa after processing.

Bowen has many small but beautiful beaches and the nice thing is, not too many people know about them. So you could well be the only visitors there. The town itself isnt all that big but does have a good variety of accommodation and restaurants. There are also heritage buildings to visit and the Bowen information centre is a good place to start.

Home Hill and Aye:- Ask most Australians and they will not be able to tell you where these two towns are. However, if you did your social studies in school, you may remember. They are called the twin towns of the north and are on either side of the Burdekin River delta, surrounded by very fertile soil. The main crops are sugar cane and rice and you can visit the rice and sugar mills, but you will not need long here.

Townsville:- You have arrived back in civilisation. Townsville is a big town and you should plan a few days here at least. You can restock supplies and do some retail therapy and have your vehicle checked over if need be. The town was built on the establishment of coffee, cotton and sugar. The discovery of gold in nearby Charters Towers and Ravenswood did wonders to the rapid development of Townsville. It has heavy industry around its port along with the tourism sector for boating trips out to the reef and in particular Magnetic Island, just a short ride from the marina. If you can organise the time and money, a night or two on the island is interesting. Its a nice drive around the island, so if you are taking the passenger ferry you can hire a vehicle (mini moke) on the island and feel the wind in your hair. The beaches on Magnetic are beautiful and a visit to the old forts left over from the Second World War will be a buzz.

To get an overall view of Townsville and the surrounding area drive up Castle Hill, which looks over the town. There are museums, botanical gardens, and the casino is always a draw card for tourists The Strand is a prominent promenade providing entertainment, restaurants, picnic grounds and playgrounds for the kids. The highlight here is the rock pool, which provides a safe swimming area. Remember you are in the far north now and should always be aware of stingers in the summer months and crocodiles in remote areas.

With your destination in sight, (almost), you may not want to stop in any of the smaller towns that you will be driving through, Ingham, Cardwell, Innisfail and Babinda. These towns are pleasant country towns and provide a nice stop over for lunch, or simply a rest stop. The drive from Townsville to Cairns is 345kms and the road conditions are good. So a nice easy morning will have you in the unofficial capital of the north.

Cairns:- So here you are in Cairns, having driven around 1770kms, depending how many side roads you took. Cairns is a Mecca for tourists who come to play in the north and the town is big, so you will find everything here you could possibly want. Shops, restaurants, cinemas, theatre, museums, beaches, cable car rides over the rainforest, nature walks, boating tours, diving, snorkelling and fishing. The list is never ending. So plan a well deserved rest here after that drive up but dont forget you have the whole thing to do in reverse, unless you have been clever enough to hire a car, drive it one way and fly back.

Tips on a successful road trip.

Prepare the car (if its your own) or better still hire one and let someone else do the servicing

Get a map and plan the places you want to see

If travelling with children, plan rest stops frequently, they need more stops than adults

Take plenty of water in the car with you

Take healthy snacks

Take your favourite CDs (there are a few spots where radio reception isnt good)

Know your car. How many kms do you get from a tank of fuel?

Get online to the RACQ and check the road conditions

Here I am going to share with you 3 tips that you can use today in order to get some great deals on airline travel.

1. The first tip is to fly at times that no one else wants to. If you can find flights that take off or land really late at night or really early in the morning, then you might be able to get negotiate with the airlines and get a great deal. I have done this on a few different occasions with great success.

2. Another thing that you can do to get round trip cheap airfares is to contact the airlines directly via the hotline. Many travelers do not realize that the airlines often times put great deals on their hotlines, and the first people to act can get a really good deal. The key is to call shortly after midnight when the systems have just been updated.

3. The best tip that I have found for getting amazing pricing on airline travel is to know someone on the inside. If you can find a current or former employee who is willing to share with you the secrets of the business, then you will literally be able to save hundreds of dollars on each flight. Best Price Cruises – A Few Simple Steps To Booking Cruise Travel Deals Online

Author: William L.br
Source: articleage.combr
br
To find the best price cruises online and booking them with confidence, you need to understand a few things about how the cruising industry comes up with their lowest price, and follow a few simple steps that the travel professionals at your local agencies dont want to you know!

The fact remains that over 90% of cruise reservations are done through a travel agent, and youre not only at the mercy of their service fees, but also to the prices they charge for a particular cruise and sailing. So why do so many individuals go through this booking avenue, when they know the deals are far better online, and they have access to a computer and the Internet?

The answers simple! The cruise industry believes that customers new and seasoned may not truly understand the cruise ships industry language, or feel comfortable booking online! They put their dependency on many travel professionals to interpret the cruising lingo that is the integral part of the cruise booking process.

However, if you take the time to learn and understand the cruise lines language such as guaranteed staterooms, singles supplement, or run-of-the-ship, you should have no worries booking your next vacation cruise online, and start taking advantage of all the fantastic savings!

Booking Cruise Travel Over The Internet Is Simple and Easier Than You Think!

When youre searching the Internet to find a cruise special, keep in mind that if you go direct to the main cruise lines site, such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival, or Princess, you may end up paying a higher cabin price than the online cruise discounters, even though they may be showing reduced cabin prices on their sites.

In order to get the best discounts, you should source large vacation suppliers such as Travelocity, Expedia, or exclusive cruise booking sites like CruiseDirect.com, which specialize in selling cruises, and offer a unique booking engine that can quickly put together your cruise package in minutes.

Why go through these online cruise specialists, and travel suppliers?

Even though the cruise lines want to deal with you directly, they also need to keep a solid business relationship with their travel agencies that are currently booking a majority of cruises for them though their local offices and online vacation websites.

With online travel suppliers and Internet cruise companys, they deal with the cruise lines a little differently, and they either pre-purchase cabins at a very low discounted price, or theyre large enough to be directly linked to the cruiselines inventory database system. They are also capable of receiving live updated stateroom information daily, and in most cases hourly! With this powerful online system, they can take these updated cabin inventory deals, and pass them directly to the consumer, which offers you the consumer far deeper discounted savings!

What this means to you, is that once you understand what these suppliers are offering, you will have a better chance of reserving your favourite cruise in minutes and take advantage of the incredible discounts that could easily range from 20% – 60%, depending on the seasonality, type of itinerary, and actual cruise ship you book.

Just make sure that before you make any reservations online, that if you have any doubts, or understanding what your booking, contact the customer service departments via their toll-free numbers, or the cruise lines email, and they will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have prior to booking your next cruise vacation.br

Miami Cheap Flights – A Simple Guide on Where to Find Them

Author: Samantha J Taylorbr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Miami has such a lot to offer these days with its fantastic beaches, amazing skyline and its beautiful people that it really is no surprise that the airline industry does extremely well out of the average traveller! As its such a popular destination though, the individual airlines are under no real pressure to offer Miami cheap flights. However with a few simple strategies it is certainly possible to save hundreds of dollars on your flights.

Flexibility
Do you really have to fly directly in to Miami international airport? Dont get me wrong, this is a fantastic airport, and its only 8 miles from the center of Miami, but boy is it busy? If you really want to save money on miami cheap flights then try looking slightly further afield, for instance Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is only 21 miles from Miami and is extremely popular with many budget airlines. From the airport there are many train and bus routes directly into Miami, plus as always there is a huge choice of car rentals too. Slightly further away and approximately 90 minutes drive from Miami is Palm Beach International Airport, for most people this may be too far to travel, however as there is the potential to save a few hundred dollars by flying here then its certainly worth considering.

Time of day
It is a fact that people prefer to travel during the day and airlines are well aware of this, hence more expensive fares during daylight hours! It is much easier to find Miami cheap flights if you are willing and able to travel through the night, just take a look at the different prices on offer, it is often significantly cheaper to travel when everyone else is sleeping (or wishes they were sleeping!)

Airline employees
If you know an airline employee then buy them a drink, sit them down and pick their brains for half an hour! Theres no better source of information on how to drastically drive down the cost of your ticket, some of the simple strategies they know (and which the airlines dont want you to know) can be worth a fortune in savings.

br
br
pThe truth is though, most people dont know an airline employee, much less one who is prepared to spill the beans and risk getting fired. FortunatelyI do though, a friend of mine who worked in the airline industry for 16 years is itching to tell people absolutely everything he knows on how to make massive savings on your air fare. If youd like to find out more then please click here a target=_new href=http://cheapticketflight.info/ rel=nofollowmiami cheap flights/a or for more information on how to save money on your flight to Miami then please visit a target=_new href=http://cheapticketflight.info/ rel=nofollowhttp://cheapticketflight.info/a./pbr

The Cathedral in Cartagena-Murcia is an Attraction

Author: Greg K. Hanswardbr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Murcia is both the name of the area and the capital city of this district. The city is situated in the southeast region of Spain on the Segura River. It was built near an area that is recognized as the marketplace of Murcia. The region consists of dells bounded by mountains and there is a lot to see and do in this Murcia.

Sights to See
The Cathedral in Cartagena-Murcia is an attraction. The bulk of the work on the building was completed in the fifteenth century. The rise was finished in the seventeenth century. The Cathedral included a mix of architectural fashion as well as Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque and Rococo.

The Bishops palace is situated near the House of Worship. This is the home of the local bishop. The palace was constructed in the eighteenth century. Locally the citadel is called the Palacia Episcopal.

The Museum of Science and Water is a collaborative gallery. The visitor appeal is about the water theme, and its importance to life. There are research findings and information kiosks about water. The kids will enjoy the planetarium at the museum.

As with many regions in Costa Blanca Spain, water is the attraction. There are gorgeous beaches and the preponderance of the days are warm and sunny. The climate is perfect for enjoying the water. The Mar Menor is a sheltered tiny sea divided from the Mediterranean with narrow piece of beach.

The Glorieta is a remodeled square that is next to the river and this quadrangle is a terrific place to stopover when in the heart of town. City hall has its offices in this quadrangle. There are numerous pedestrian spots located throughout the city. These are friendly for walking and taking in the sights. The market square is a great place to shop.

Festivals
There are several fiestas in Murcia all through the year. They possess spiritual importance and overlap with religious holy days. The holy pageants are the most celebrated in this city. Throughout this parade, large figurines are taken from the museums and marched through the city. The statues used in the pageants show the life of Christ up until the time of the crucifixion. There are candlelight parades at night as well as daylight pageants.

Travelling
The Murcia airport lies between three places, Murcia, Cartagena, and Torrevieja. This airport is located about forty-five kilometers from the city. This comparatively tiny airport has been developing over time. There are many major airlines that land here.

Evaluate cost of airlines landing at each aero port. The Internet is a great source for locating air travel. You may calculate schedules and fares quoted from a few travel websites at once. Not all discount airlines however are listed on travel websites. You will need to call some airlines directly to find a flight on many of these.

Cruisers Led the Entire Social Media Trend – Marketers Followed

Author: Tom L. Martinbr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Cruisers are social animals by nature. They are joiners. For the most part, they belong to groups and organizations, and seek to meet new friends when they cruise. Picture the best friend youve never met. That is the promise inherent in a cruise vacation…yet at the turn of the century – the cruise lines failed to understand it, or lead with it.

Pre-Y2K

In 1999, I met with a friend from the airline industry who had recently become the President of a very large cruise line, who informed me over the course of lunch that he had just been on his first cruise. He went on to explain that he felt the need to have the ships communications department facilitate ship-to-shore communications capability just for him, so he could check his e-mail while at sea. I told him then and there that his company (and all other cruise lines) would be retrofitting their ships to facilitate the same connections for their guests that he demanded for himself – in every cabin. He told me it would never happen – as the costs were too prohibitive. I explained that his prospects communication needs were no less important than his own (from their perspective), and that he had just articulated a major cruise resistance factor that needed to be overcome. What he perceived to be a cost, was actually a huge (wish you were here) marketing opportunity, one that self-liquidates through use fees. The industry has subsequently proven me right, as every major vessel now offers internet capabilities to its guests.

Y2K And Beyond

B.I. (before Internet), booking a cruise necessitated the inclusion of a commissioned travel agent in the education/facilitation process (for an 18% fee). At the point where the Internet had achieved a 50% rate of adoption in the US, the developing cruise-specific social communities were facilitating Internet-enabled-word-of-mouth to such an extent that every question any prospect might have to achieve a comfort level sufficient to purchase a cruise, was easily answered by the community. Direct booking (by phone) was being facilitated by the conversations that were occurring online, saving the Contemporary cruise brands $180 per booking on average.

2002 – A Year Of Transition

If youre reading this, you may well have been among the early adopters of online travel research and booking, for whom the Internet replaced the travel agent for all of your research and booking needs. A mindset developed among this cohort that they would no longer rely on travel agents. One problem. Cruises are a highly complex purchase, and fear of making the wrong decision was causing booking paralysis among this contingent. As a result, these would-be-cruisers were spending weeks and months on message boards, hoping to attain the knowledge and comfort level sufficient to book their first cruise. While the industrys reseller channel was under direct attack, the cruise lines had yet to make the online tools available to facilitate the transaction in this new paradigm, for fear they would be perceived as cannibalizing their those responsible for booking 95% of their business. While an industry struggled to maintain the status quo, the online cruise community blew right past them.

Cruises In Common

While most were conducting their research as a couple, these interactions led prospects to seek a connection with other couples who were already booked on the same cruise they were contemplating. This organic trend was witnessed in real time, in its infancy, by this author. The ramifications were tremendous, and would change an entire industry. The disintermediation of the reseller channel was occurring before my eyes, in a most compelling way. Not only were cruisers providing advice, they were actually involved in selling the product – for free.

Join Us On Our Cruise!

What cruise line marketers failed to understand is that people were at least as interested (if not more interested) in the types of people who would be on their cruise as they were in the brand, ship or itinerary. Marketers had no desire to help prospective cruisers answer that question in 2002, as their budgets and mindsets were all geared to broadcast mode. While marketers were proclaiming Were prefect for everyone! – potential cruisers werent buying it, as evidenced by the fact that 90-plus% of Americans had yet to cruise – this despite a huge percentage who said theyd like to.

FriendShip Facilitation

As was hammered home in my subsequent e-marketing consulting for the aforementioned cruise line President, Youre in the friendship facilitation business, and your marketing department doesnt know it! While I was spending most days reading the thousands of message threads on sites like Cruisecritic.com, learning wants and desires, fears, resistance factors and all the rest, marketers in the industry scarcely knew of this communitys existence – and certainly did not see the powerful future of Social Media that I foresaw – as it exists today.

Only by sheer tenacity was I able to push through a first-of-its-kind program, whereby a Fortune 500 company embraced an online community, honoring their value to the company. As couples with a cruise in common formed their own vertical affinity groups, we implemented a program to acknowledge and reward their online interactions once they boarded the ship for their cruise. A special party for each group was planned on every significant sailing. The online community was delighted to know that one brand was listening to their wants and desires (knew them by their screen names) and rewarded their online efforts in the real world – enhancing their vacation experience. As they returned to their cabins in the aftermath of these parties, theyd report back to their other onshore cruise friends in the broader Cruise Critic community – from the ship: Heres a picture of our group with the Captain! Powerful stuff!

Seeing The Opportunities

Here we are all these years later, and corporate leaders and marketing departments are all abuzz about how to catch-up with this Social Media Tsunami and leverage it to their advantage. Heres a little tip. Its an art, not a science. Getting it wrong with heavy-handed offensive tactics can destroy your brands credibility among existing communities. Sensitivity is at least as important as creativity where friendship facilitation is concerned. What business are you in? What business could you be in? Are your marketers geared toward broadcasting – or are they listening, and then responding to delight your prospects in surprising new ways?

Customer Experience Service

If your customer service department isnt actively monitoring message boards where discussion of your product or service is concerned, youre on the road to extinction. In the new world, customer service IS marketing, and for the most part, brand advertising is irrelevant. Community members who have legitimate complaints about products or services, and voice them online, should have an expectation of results. When you take steps to fix legitimate problems voiced within these communities, your brands critics can become your most ardent champions – and it can happen in real-time – to the boisterous applause of the broader community.

The Pitch

That said, there are one-hundred wrong ways, and one best way, to handle these matters. Its not likely you have this skill set in-house. Sending in covert agents to infiltrate communities – or recruiting brand champions from within existing communities – will result in your brands public crucifixion (as occurred with my former cruise client when their marketers recently attempted this ploy). Treading lightly into these waters – with customer experience and customer service as your primary missions – will lead to brand loyalty, not as a direct result, but as an indirect byproduct of applied respect and common sense.

Travel Back In Time: Create Simple Bath Products the Way Your Grandmother Probably Did

Author: Suzanne Lieurancebr
Source: downloadbr
br
Ever wonder what your grandmother (or great grandmother) did to make
her bath extra special before the days of whirlpool tubs and Jacuzzis? If
you ask her, shell probably tell you about bath salts and other lovely
scented products that are easy and inexpensive to make.
You and your friends will want to try all three of the recipes that follow.
But if youre younger than nine or ten, youll probably need to ask Mom
or Dad for some help.
BATH SALTS
1 cup Epsom salts (available at drug stores)
A few drops of Food coloring (use the kind in plastic bottles so you can
squeeze out a few drops at a time)
A few drops of Essential oil (found in crafts stores; sometimes called
potpourri oil)
Ceramic bowl (not plastic, since it will absorb the scent of the essential
oil)
A Large Spoon
Pipette or eye dropper (found in drug stores)
DIRECTIONS:
1) Pour one cup of salts into the ceramic bowl.
2) Add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture.
3) Stir well until blended.
4) Use the pipette or eye dropper to add several drops of your favorite
essential oil.
5) Stir to blend.
FOR PACKAGING: Pour the salts into a jar and tie on a bow and youve
got a lovely gift for a favorite teacher, a good friend, or even for your
mother or grandmother.
Attach a small card which reads: Bath Salts – add one to two
tablespoons to water as tub fills for a relaxing soak.
When you find youve created enough bath salts to fill a swimming pool,
try this other simple product thats even more soothing in the bath.
BATH GRAINS
1 cup Epsom Salts
A few drops of food coloring
A few drops of any essential oil
One to two tablespoons of baking soda
DIRECTIONS:
Mix everything the same as you did for the bath salts, adding the baking
soda last.
Bath Grains have a much finer texture than plain Bath Salts, but the
mixture will harden if not used right away. Again, use two to three
tablespoons per bath.
FOR PACKAGING: Use a wide-mouthed jar or any container you can
scoop into, or tap against the side of the tub, to loosen the grains.
Another easy bath product youll enjoy making by yourself, or with
friends, is an old-fashioned milk bath.
OLD-FASHIONED MILK BATH
1 cup of Epsom salts
A few drops of Food coloring
A few drops of any Essential oil
A few tablespoons of powdered milk
DIRECTIONS:
Again, mix the same as for Bath Salts, just add the powdered milk last,
making sure you dont add too much powdered milk or the mixture will
end up smelling like baby formula. Peach or strawberry oils work well for
milk baths, but try other oils to see what pleases you the most.
FOR PACKAGING: Select the same kind of container or jar as for the
bath grains. Add a few tablespoons to the tub for a glorious, skin-
softening soak.
When youve finished experimenting with all these products, not only
will you find youve created some lovely gifts for the holidays, youll also
notice your whole house smells wonderful! And, if youre lucky enough
to have a bathroom with an old clawfoot tub like grandma used to have,
you can even travel back in time with an old-fashioned soak yourself.

Choosing Wireless TV Headphones

Author: Anthony J Davisbr
Source: ezinearticles.combr
br
Its pretty obvious why someone would want wireless TV headphones. No one wants to be attached to their television with wires, so the choice of wireless over wired headphones is a no brainer as long as youre not an audiophile. If you are, and if you do notice every little sound discrepancy, then wireless is simply not for you, and you need a good wired set of headphones.

Convenience Of Wireless Headphones For TV

If youre of the normal type who doesnt really discern between, say, stock speakers on a car and aftermarket in sound quality alone, then wireless TV headphones are a good choice. There may be times when, although theyre sharing a room with the television, someone in the home doesnt want to hear the TV. This is when a good wireless TV headphone set comes in really handy since the only one who will be able to hear the TV is the one watching it. I know that I enjoy having my wife in the same room as me, but sometimes I need to concentrate on working and find that the television is distracting. Since its behind me, I dont really see it, but I can hear it. A set of wireless headphones for TV would be ideal in this situation.

A Wireless TV Headphone Set May Increase Audio Quality

Also, a good set of wireless headphones for TV will direct and optimize the sound for one person as opposed to many. Even those who arent audiophiles will hear a difference. Stereo is much more…stereo, and theres various sounds that you simply missed before that will come in loud and clear. A lot of science goes in to optimizing speakers, so it stands to reason that if theres only one person listening, it makes a lot of sense to have speakers that are pointed at that one person and intended only for that one person. Your television was designed to produce sound that was meant to be heard by many people – a whole room full if necessary. As opposed to wireless TV headphones, certain sacrifices wouldve been made to broaden the range of the speakers much further than the one sitting right in front. This may or may not negate the impact that simply being wireless can have on audio quality.

Types Of Wireless TV Headphones

There are really two, but sort of three different types of wireless headphones. Theres infrared, RF (radio frequency), and Bluetooth. Bluetooth is actually RF on a very limited scale, which is good for reducing interference both to and from the Bluetooth device, but obviously bad for range. Infrared operates off a beam of light that travels directly from the transmitter, which would be plugged into the televisions headphone jack (or possibly component jacks), to a receiver that sits on the headset. RF works similar to a cordless phone and shares that same range, which brings both the advantages of extended usability and the disadvantages of vastly increased interference.

Comparing Types Of Wireless Headphones For TV

Odds are pretty good that anything radio, RF wireless TV headphone sets not excluded, will pick up something else radio in todays technologically active world. It could be anything from the electromagnetic field that some equipment puts out on its own to your neighbors conversation on their cordless phone, but you can bet that something will cause RF to be the least clear of the group of choices here. However, its also the only type that will allow you to walk around the full range of your home and never lose connection. Infrared will likely give you the best sound quality, but cannot be used outdoors and the receiver must remain within line of sight of the transmitter at all times.
